The City of Houston's Memorial Super Neighborhood runs from Interstate 10 south to Buffalo Bayou, and from the incorporated villages west to roughly State Highway 6. It covers ZIP codes 77024, 77055 and 77079. Memorial Drive, the road the area is named for, cuts through the middle and ends at Highway 6 beside the Barker Reservoir dam and George Bush Park. Most Memorial moves start on or near that spine, with I-10 and Beltway 8 handling the longer legs.
Residential building here began in the 1950s on heavily wooded land. Memorial Bend dates to 1955 and is known for mid-century modern and ranch houses, while Nottingham Forest, Westchester and Fonn Villas were laid out in the 1960s. The city describes the housing range as everything from mass-produced homes to multimillion-dollar estates. Those tall trees are part of the charm, and they shape where a truck can park and how far crews carry.
Memorial is not only houses. Memorial City Mall, Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center and office towers on Gessner Road sit along the freeway, CityCentre fills the corner of I-10 and Beltway 8, and the Energy Corridor stretches west along I-10 from Kirkwood Road. Spring Branch ISD serves most of the area, including Memorial High and Stratford High, with Katy ISD covering part of the western end.
