River Oaks covers roughly 1,100 acres inside the 610 Loop, bounded by Buffalo Bayou to the north, Westheimer Road to the south, South Shepherd Drive to the east and Willowick Road to the west. Most of its 1,600 or so homes are detached single-family houses, many on deep lots with long front walks. That means longer carries from truck to door, and we staff and pad every job with that walk in mind rather than discovering it on moving day.
Will and Mike Hogg laid out the community in the 1920s around River Oaks Country Club, which opened in 1923. Deed restrictions written then still shape the area, and River Oaks Property Owners maintains the parks and esplanades under a 1999 agreement with the City of Houston. The neighborhood also runs its own private security force, River Oaks Patrol. Letting the patrol and your neighbors know a truck is coming keeps the day calm and the curb clear.
The commercial edges matter too. River Oaks Shopping Center sits at West Gray and South Shepherd, and River Oaks District opened at 4444 Westheimer in 2015. Highland Village and Upper Kirby are next door. Mail runs through the 77019 and 77027 ZIP codes, and families are zoned to River Oaks Elementary, Lanier Middle and Lamar High, so school-year timing often drives when people choose to move.
