About Tomball

What to Know About Moving in Tomball

Tomball is an incorporated city in northwest Harris County, with about 12,300 residents counted in the 2020 census and the 77375 and 77377 ZIP codes. Unlike unincorporated Cypress, Tomball has its own city government, so moves inside city limits follow city rules as well as any HOA or deed restrictions. The town started as a railroad stop called Peck and was renamed in 1907 for Thomas Henry Ball, the congressman and railroad attorney who brought the line through downtown.

Getting around Tomball is mostly a matter of two roads. State Highway 249, the Tomball Parkway, runs north and south, and FM 2920, which becomes Main Street through town, runs east and west. The Grand Parkway (SH 99) passes along the south side, where newer commercial growth has followed. We time arrivals around traffic on 249 and 2920 so the crew reaches your home when planned.

Housing ranges from older homes near Old Tomball, a preserved historic district with late 1800s and early 1900s commercial buildings, to newer subdivisions and larger acreage lots outside the city. The area also includes Tomball Regional Medical Center, Lone Star College-Tomball and David Wayne Hooks Memorial Airport. Tomball ISD serves most of the city, with Tomball High and Tomball Memorial High among its campuses.

Moving-day tips for Tomball

  • Avoid scheduling a downtown Tomball move during Germanfest weekends in March and December, when Old Tomball streets fill with visitors.
  • If you live on acreage outside city limits, send us photos of your driveway and gate so we bring the right truck.
  • Check whether your Tomball subdivision has HOA rules on truck parking or moving hours before you set a date.
  • Plan around rush hour on SH 249, especially if your move crosses into Cypress or Spring.
