Know the township
The Woodlands is a 28,000-acre master-planned community that George Mitchell opened on October 19, 1974. Instead of a city government, residents are served by The Woodlands Township, which handles fire protection, parks, environmental services and deed restriction enforcement. Most of the community sits in Montgomery County, while Creekside Park reaches into Harris County. Eight residential villages (Alden Bridge, Cochran's Crossing, College Park, Creekside Park, Grogan's Mill, Indian Springs, Panther Creek and Sterling Ridge) sit around a busy Town Center. Knowing which village you are leaving and which one you are entering helps us plan parking, timing and crew size before move day.
Each village has its own character. Grogan's Mill, the original village, has homes dating to the 1970s under mature trees, while Sterling Ridge on the western edge opened in 1999 and includes the gated Carlton Woods enclave, where we confirm gate access ahead of time. Town Center brings a different set of logistics. Market Street, The Woodlands Mall, the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion and the 1.8-mile Waterway draw heavy traffic on concert nights and weekends, so we schedule around big events when a move runs through that part of town.
Township covenants shape a few moving-day details. Parking on lawns, ditches and other unpaved areas is prohibited, so trucks stay on the street or driveway. Trailers cannot sit on a street or a visible lot for 48 consecutive hours or more, which matters if you rent one for extra items. Garage and estate sales are not allowed, although online sales are permitted, so plan any downsizing early. Trash carts can go to the curb no earlier than the day before collection and must be back out of view by the end of pickup day.
FAQ's
Common questions from people moving to, from or within The Woodlands.
Yes. Tera Moving works in all eight residential villages, from Grogan's Mill and Panther Creek on the eastern side to Sterling Ridge and Creekside Park on the western and southern edges, plus Town Center and Hughes Landing. We also handle moves between The Woodlands and the rest of greater Houston, as well as long-distance moves anywhere in the continental U.S.
No. The Woodlands is served by The Woodlands Township, a governmental organization rather than a city, and a 2007 agreement with Houston and Conroe prevents either city from annexing it. For movers, that means Township covenants on parking, trash carts and trailers apply, so we plan each job around those standards.
For resale homes, Township trash and recycling service through Waste Management transfers to the new owner automatically and is paid through property taxes. Newly built homes need carts requested from Waste Management at 1-800-800-5804. Furniture you are not keeping can go out as a scheduled bulky pickup at no charge.
We suggest at least one week, and three or more weeks for holiday weekends. May through August and the last weekend of each month are the busiest windows, so a mid-week, mid-month date usually gives you more choice. Weekend moves cost the same hourly rate as weekdays, and quote requests get a same-business-day reply.
Yes. Tera Moving holds USDOT 4264678 and MC1655284 for interstate moves, plus TxDMV #010277202C for moves within Texas, and is insured and bonded. Free, no-obligation estimates are available, including virtual walkthroughs for larger homes in villages like Grogan's Mill or Sterling Ridge.
