Uptown, handled
Know the district
Uptown Houston is roughly framed by Woodway Drive to the north, the I-610 West Loop to the east and Yorktown Street to the west, with Richmond Avenue and the Southwest Freeway closing it off to the south. Post Oak Boulevard, Westheimer Road and San Felipe Street carry most of the district's traffic. The Galleria itself, opened in 1970 at 5085 Westheimer, draws heavy weekend and holiday crowds, so we plan truck arrival times around its peak hours whenever a move touches Westheimer.
The district holds about 23.6 million square feet of office space and roughly 2,000 companies, according to Uptown Houston figures cited on Wikipedia. That density shapes residential moves too: towers like the two 40-story Four Leaf Towers on San Felipe share streets with office loading docks, delivery vans and hotel traffic from the Westin Galleria and Westin Oaks. Booking a dock slot early matters more here than almost anywhere else in Houston.
Since August 2020 the METRORapid Silver Line has run in dedicated bus lanes down the median of Post Oak Boulevard, with stops such as Uptown Park, San Felipe and Westheimer/Galleria. Trucks cannot use those lanes or stop in them, so curbside loading on Post Oak needs a plan. Just outside the core, neighborhoods like Tanglewood, Briarcroft, Larchmont and St. George Place offer quieter residential streets with easier driveway access.
FAQ's
Common questions from people moving in, out of or around The Galleria area.
All of it. That includes the high-rises along Post Oak Boulevard and San Felipe, the townhome pockets near Augusta and Bering drives, and the single-family streets in Tanglewood, Briargrove, Briarcroft, Larchmont, St. George Place and Afton Oaks. We also move people from Uptown to anywhere in greater Houston or across the continental U.S.
Yes. Send us your building's COI requirements, including the exact names of the property owner and management company, and we will issue the certificate at no extra charge. We also confirm your elevator reservation and dock time while we build the moving plan, so the crew is not turned away at the door.
The METRORapid Silver Line uses bus-only lanes in the median of Post Oak Boulevard, so a moving truck cannot stop there. For towers on Post Oak we look for a garage entrance, side street or rear dock and confirm it with building staff before move day.
Yes. Uptown is one of Houston's largest business districts, and we run after-hours, overnight and weekend office relocations there. See our commercial moving page for the business side and our apartment page if you are moving a unit in one of the area's residential towers.
