About Telfair
Telfair is a 2,018-acre master-planned community inside Sugar Land city limits in Fort Bend County, using the 77479 ZIP code. Newland Communities bought the land from the State of Texas in 2002, began building in 2005 and opened the community in 2006. The name comes from Telfair Square in Savannah, Georgia. For a moving crew, the useful part is the street plan: the main entrance sits on University Boulevard just south of State Highway 6, and the community borders the Southwest Freeway (U.S. 59 and Interstate 69).
The ground has a long history. It was once part of the state's Central prison unit, and the restored Two Camp dormitory now houses the Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugar Land, which opened in 2009 at University and New Territory boulevards. The Imperial State Farm Cemetery still sits in a grass field on the northwest side. Today the homeowners' association reports roughly 2,839 single-family homes arranged around about 70 acres of lakes, trails and walkways, so most moves here involve full houses rather than small units.
Telfair is also a working district. The commercial land along University Boulevard and U.S. 59 holds the University of Houston at Sugar Land campus, an office campus Texas Instruments opened in 2014, and medical office buildings in the West and East Office Parks. That mix means Tera Moving schedules everything from Saturday family moves to after-hours business relocations here. Schools fall under Fort Bend ISD, with Cornerstone Elementary inside the community and Sartartia Middle and Clements High serving many Telfair streets.
