Students in Sugar Land
Sugar Land has its own university campus. The University of Houston at Sugar Land sits at U.S. 59 and University Boulevard near the Brazos River, on land TxDOT transferred to the UH System in 1998. It grew from about 200 students in 1994 to nearly 4,500 by 2012 and now includes the Albert and Mamie George Building, Brazos Hall, a joint Fort Bend County Library branch and an engineering building. Brazos Hall also houses Wharton County Junior College.
Many students at the Sugar Land campus commute or rent nearby, and new apartment supply in the city is limited, so a student move often means a shared house in Telfair, a room in a family home or an apartment in a neighboring city. We move those smaller loads between semesters, from the futon and desk to boxes of textbooks, and we time arrival around class schedules on University Boulevard.
Other college moves start in Sugar Land and head out. Graduates of Fort Bend ISD and Lamar CISD high schools leave for universities across Texas and beyond each August, then come home in May. If your student's campus is out of state, the move is priced as a long-distance job on a flat rate. Within the Houston area, it stays hourly.
FAQ's
Questions Sugar Land families and students ask about college moves.
Yes. Moves within the Houston area are billed hourly, while moves to campuses in other cities or states are quoted as a flat rate with a 15% deposit. Tera Moving holds USDOT 4264678 and MC1655284 for interstate moves, so out-of-state campuses are covered too.
Yes. We offer overnight, week-long and month-to-month storage. Many families store an apartment's worth of furniture from May until August rather than bringing it back to Sugar Land, then we deliver to the new address for the fall semester.
Local moves have a two-hour minimum, and the deposit equals that minimum. After that, you pay only for the time worked. Dorm rooms and shared apartments are usually quick, so the total stays in line with the size of the load.
