Across Central Texas
Know the region
The federal government defines this metro as the Austin–Round Rock–San Marcos area, made up of Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis and Williamson counties. Austin is the state capital and the Travis County seat, and the region is often listed among the fastest-growing large metros in the country. For movers that growth means a mix of older central neighborhoods, dense apartment districts and brand-new subdivisions at the edges, sometimes all in the same week of jobs.
Geography splits the region in two. The Balcones Fault runs north to south, with flatter land to the east and limestone hills to the west on the edge of the Texas Hill Country. The Colorado River crosses the area and forms the Highland Lakes, including Lake Travis and Lake Austin. West-side homes often sit on slopes or narrow lake roads, while eastern suburbs tend to have wide streets and easy truck access.
Interstate 35 and MoPac (Loop 1) carry most north to south traffic, US 183 and US 290 run east to west, and SH 130 and SH 45 offer toll alternatives. SH 71 links Austin toward Houston. Summers are hot and humid, and the hilly west is prone to flash flooding during heavy storms, so we watch the forecast and keep wrapping materials ready for wet days.
FAQ's
Common questions about moving in and around Austin.
We serve the whole Austin–Round Rock–San Marcos region, which covers Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop and Caldwell counties. That includes suburbs like Round Rock, Cedar Park, Pflugerville and Kyle as well as Hill Country towns such as Dripping Springs and Wimberley. Tell us both addresses and we will confirm scheduling.
Yes. Tera Moving is based in Houston, so moves between Houston and Central Texas are a regular part of our work. For longer moves we quote a flat rate that locks in once you confirm, with a 15% deposit, and in most cases the same crew that loads your home also delivers it.
Moves inside the region are billed by the hour, so you pay for the time the job actually takes. The deposit equals the two-hour minimum and is fully refundable if you cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead. Weekend moves cost the same hourly rate as weekdays, and there are no hidden fees.
Yes. Homes near Lake Travis and in the hills west of the Balcones Fault often have steep driveways, stairs and long walks to the door. Stairs and long carries are not extra with us, and a walkthrough, in person or virtual, lets us choose the right crew and truck before move day.
Our crews keep working through normal rain using floor protectors, shrink-wrap and waterproof pads. If conditions become unsafe, such as thunderstorms or flash flood risk in the hilly west, we reschedule without any fee. Your safety and your belongings come before the clock.
Yes. We offer overnight, week-long and month-to-month storage, which helps when a new build in a growing suburb runs behind schedule. We can also ship a car door to door through our partner RunBuggyOne if you are relocating from out of state.
Thank you for considering us for your moving needs. We will get back to you during normal business hours.
